22 CHT community leaders to receive training in Perth, Australia
High Commissioner Dr Lee with the CHT community leaders
Twenty-two community leaders from the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) will travel to Perth this week to attend a two week course designed specifically to build their leadership capacity.
The Australian High Commissioner Justin Lee farewelled the community leaders at a function at his residence on 7 May 2011. The High Commissioner welcomed this new training program which would benefit participants not able to access other Australian scholarships.
The leaders represent different organisations including the Government of Bangladesh, local government, NGOs, CHT women’s network organisations and community representatives.
Training will be delivered at Education and Training International and West Coast Institute of Training in Perth. The course includes components on leadership skills, participatory program development planning, women’s empowerment and a visit to an Australian indigenous community.
Participants are expected to complete a detailed work plan during the course and will implement this plan after they return home. The institute has also designed a follow up visit to CHT after eight weeks to monitor progress.
The short course is funded and managed by the Australia’s Agency for International Development (AusAID).
