The Australian High Commission provided funding earlier this year to the Assistance for Blind Children (ABC) for publishing Braille reading materials for the recreation of blind children/ readers from all over the country. These books include writings of renowned Bengali poets and authors, and are first of its kind in Bangladesh. Each of the ABC hostel were also provided with harmonium and timpani (tabla) for musical practice and cultural development.

Ms Vinckers looked around the Braille production unit, eye hospital and boarding houses for blind students run by ABC.

Ms Vinckers also shared some moments with the blind children and enjoyed the cultural program organized by them. She said that she was very happy to have been able to assist them through this project and wished the children every success in life.

The project was funded by the Australian High Commission’s Direct Aid Program 2007-08.
