Australia Provides Funds to Combat Irregular Migration in Bangladesh

The Australian High Commissioner HE Douglas Foskett is signing an MOU with Md Shahidul Haque, IOM’s Regional Representative for South Asia

The Australian High Commissioner Douglas Foskett and the Regional Representative for South Asia of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), Md. Shahidul Haque have signed an MOU on 25 May 2006 to continue the implementation of the project ‘Enhancing Capacity of the Immigration Officials to Combat Irregular Migration in Bangladesh’ in close collaboration and cooperation with the Ministry of Home Affairs. Under the MOU, AUD 467,564 will be provided to IOM for implementation of the project.

During the signing ceremony, High Commissioner HE Douglas Foskett said that the funding was a recognition not only of the priority placed by the Australian Government on the issue of irregular migration, but it is also a recognition of Bangladesh’s continued commitment to be a part of the international effort to address the problem of irregular migration.
